Cube Creatures – A Father & Son Battle of Imagination

Cube Creatures – A Father & Son Battle of Imagination

There’s something special about a trading card game made by a father and son duo, and Cube Creatures captures that magic perfectly. Built from the mind of 7-year-old Porter and brought to life with help from his dad DJ, this game oozes creativity, personality, and heart — something you just don’t see often in the TCG world.

My Thoughts

I’m a TCG veteran — I’ve played everything from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon to Magic: The Gathering and now even Lorcana. I’ve seen hundreds of different systems, but what Cube Creatures does that’s so refreshing is how simple and accessible it is without losing the excitement of strategy.

The concept of both players drawing from the same deck adds a surprising layer of tension — every card flip feels like a small victory or a potential disaster. You’re constantly hoping to draw that one creature or spell you’ve been waiting for before your opponent snags it. It’s fast-paced, competitive, and still friendly enough that even the youngest players can hang.

The art is amazing — wild, imaginative, and fun in a way that instantly reminds you that this was designed by a kid with limitless creativity. You can feel Porter’s energy and joy in every character, from the silly to the epic. The balance between simple rules and clever design makes this a perfect intro card game for new players, but still engaging for TCG veterans like me.

And honestly, the father-son collaboration makes me love it even more. Seeing this level of creativity from a 7-year-old is genuinely inspiring. It’s a reminder that games are supposed to bring people together — and this one absolutely does.

Wyatt’s Thoughts (Age 6)

“I would give it a 10 out of 10 — it was gooooood!”

Wyatt had a blast with this one. Even when he wasn’t winning, he was laughing and having fun. That’s a huge win in my book.

Final Thoughts

Cube Creatures is everything I love about gaming in one small deck — creativity, competition, and connection. It’s an easy recommendation for parents, kids, and anyone who just loves a good battle filled with heart and humor.

It’s a game born from imagination and built with love — and I’m proud to have it in our collection.
